Deep in the Heart of

Every year at this time I begin my slow season. And while on one hand I curse the gods who put me in this godforsaken area of the country where I can often go 4-5 months with no income, I have learned to adapt. I have learned that when I am feeling rich rich rich in June and July I need to think about how poor poor poor I will be in January and put some freaking money in savings!!!This has forced my hand at not only being an artist, but a business person.
What it has also afforded me is the opportunity to slow down, revamp my goals and to do some personal projects like shooting with photographers that I admire and want to learn from. For the first time in many years, I had the opportunity to shoot with two people that I adore, Brooks and Leighanne Whittington from
The pay off for me came a day later when in a courtyard of a San Antonio hotel Brooks and I downloaded our cards and had probably one of the most fantastic conversations of my photographic career. I looked at my images and I was not embarrassed by my take, but I began to see what I could have tried to make them better. He was kind..."why did you include that in the frame?' "Do you see how if you had done this, framed it like that"...but he also would look at an image and say "That is fantastic. I wished I would have taken that”. Critiques like that from a peer are invaluable to me.
I have the best, the best, the best job in the world :) I am thankful for what I do and to have the honor of recording weddings for my clients. And I am thankful for friends like Brooks and Leighanne Whittington. You can view their website at
